What Beatles Song Are You?

You Are "Across the Universe"
You are spiritual, deep, and at peace. You try to keep life in perspective.
You can't help but realize how small you are in the universe. You're just thankful you exist.

You tend to be a stream of consciousness thinker. You just let your thoughts flow, even when they don't make sense initially.
You trust your intuition to guide you. You know that whatever is in your heart is right and true.

What's Your Smart Marketing IQ?

I scored a 20 out of 20 on the CramerSweeney Smart Marketing IQ Test!

There's also a test on car brands and advertising. I didn't do as well on that one. I spend more time listening to TV than I do watching it so I think I did better on general brands because there were some audio clues and "whose slogan is this" type questions where most of the auto ones were being able to identify who makes a certain model or recognize their logo.

Either way, the marketing companies have targeted me well.

Fun, funky, and a little bit euro. You love your summers to be full of style and sun!
What's Your Summer Ride?

My first car was a VW convertible. Unfortunately due to my own immaturity and stupidity it didn't last long. I still like convertibles and would have liked to have gotten one when I was shopping for my current car but I couldn't find one that would seat a family of five comfortably (and that I could afford). When my oldest son leaves for college in a couple of years the need to seat five won't be as big an issue but the affordability thing might be more of a problem.

Geek Test

Don't laugh, you know geeks are cool now.

The Deviant Geek

You answered 81% of the questions as a geek truly would.

You're a geek and you know it. You've got all sorts of fringe hobbies and socially unacceptable tendencies. Chances are, whenever possible, you hate to be grouped with other people and sometimes go out of your way just to be different.

You're smart too. You're more willing to depend on your own brainpower to solve problems, instead of relying on others to pull you through life. You probably read a lot, and generally enjoy learning new things.

So what's it all mean? You may be considered by some to be uncool, but you probably don't care either. In social situations you may be either slightly passive or slightly loud (geeks always fall into the extremes). In a nutshell, you answered enough questions correctly supporting a geek philosophy to be considered a more potent geek than 60% of the population.

Loyalty Quiz

George W. Bush Loyalty Quiz - My score:
Your score is 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. You are a True Believer in President Bush. Your loyalty and devotion to him is matched only by your desire to see his liberal detractors locked away and declared enemy combatants. If all Americans thought as you did, and were it constitutionally viable, George W. Bush would be president for life.

John Kerry Loyalty Quiz - My score:
Your score is 0 on a scale of 1 to 10. You hate John Kerry with every fiber of your being. He is the embodiment of everything you despise in a politician: a weak, liberal, flip-flopping, elitist, condescending appeaser who threatens all that is good and decent in America. Worst of all, you think he looks French.

I wouldn't say that I hate John Kerry. I feel about him the same way I feel about jellyfish. I don't like them, I try to avoid them, and I'm not really sure what value they have to offer.

Taboo or Just Icky?

Taboo Quiz

Results

Your Moralising Quotient of 0.43 compares to an average Moralising Quotient of 0.19. This means that as far as the events depicted in the scenarios featured in this activity are concerned you are less permissive than average.

Your Interference Factor of 0.20 compares to an average Interference Factor of 0.11. This means that as far as the events depicted in the scenarios featured in this activity are concerned you are more likely to recommend societal interference in matters of moral wrongdoing, in the form of prevention or punishment, than average.

Your Universalising Factor of 0.50 compares to an average Universalising Factor of 0.27. This means you are more likely than average to see moral wrongdoing in universal terms - that is, without regard to prevailing cultural norms and social conventions (at least as far as the events depicted in the scenarios featured in this activity are concerned).

If you're going to take the test, don't continue reading until after you have your results.

Link to the quiz was found on The Presurfer.

I thought that a woman using my country's flag to clean her bathroom was wrong. It shows a lack of respect and just because a country has a culture where this lack of respect is normal doesn't make it right. You don't even have to respect a country to respect its flag. Because of its symbolic nature, something like a flag often needs to be treated with more care than something more concrete.

In the second scenario a son promises his dying mother that he will visit her grave every week. I didn't think it was wrong for him to break that promise. The important thing here was giving comfort to his mother not whether he actually followed through with it. Read Mark Twain's Was it Heaven? Or Hell? It's a short story and won't take long to read.

The third set of questions were about a family who ate their pet cat after it was hit by a car. I live with cats. They would know if I had said it was ok...my life would be in danger forever after. The question didn't indicate that the family was starving and had no other source of food, rather their reason for eating their pet was that they had heard that cat meat was tasty. Let's not tell them that people are supposed to taste like pork.

The next question was about a brother and sister having sex. The question says that they have never regreted it and it's been a positive experience in their lives. Even ignoring the taboo factor, it would blur the lines of their relationship that would have an effect on other relationships in their lives. Just because it's positive for them doesn't mean it won't create some negative feelings for someone else in their lives even if that other person has no idea what the cause is.

The last set of questions was about a man who had sex with a chicken (from the grocery) before he cooked and ate it. I wouldn't say this was strictly bad, morally speaking. I just wouldn't want to be invited to his house for dinner.

Most of the questions included a statement that the person/people involved had no regrets about what happened. This is irrelevant to whether or not the act was wrong.

Which Famous Poet Are You?

Dickinson
You are Emily Dickinson! Not all that much is
known about Emily Dickinson, probably because
she holed herself up in her room and wrote
poetry. She didn't have very many connections
with the world outside her house, and her
poetry is very introspective and
compartmentalized. You need to get out more.

Which famous poet are you? (pictures and many outcomes)
brought to you by Quizilla

Introspective and compartmentalized, sure, but all the poems rhyme and you can sing them to the tune of "Yellow Rose of Texas". What more could you ask for?

Quizzes From The Guardian

The Guardian has several quizzes on topics from popular culture to science. If you like quizzes, there are enough here to keep you busy for a while.

Is your computer your friend?
You and your computer are, in the street vernacular, 'going steady'. You love the way it makes you feel, excuse its little annoyances and prefer to spend more time with it than anything (or anyone) else. Games, chatrooms and emailing your holiday snaps - is there anything else you could ask for?

I thought our relationship had progressed further than that....

Are you getting the right amount of sleep?
You scored 0 out of a possible 8
Sleep's for wimps yeah? Plenty of time for that when you're dead. Still, you should try and get some rest now and then - no sleep is the same as too much when it comes to living longer

I get sleep, the quiz is biased against people who are up all night and nap during the day!

There's a quiz asking if we're dumbing down. I didn't know "British prime ministers between 1900 and 1945" but I did get "Characters from Big Brother". That right answer was just luck, I haven't watched any Big Brother show (and I really don't know anything about the UK version) but I did remember seeing the name of one of the people in another question in a pop culture quiz. I also didn't know the current (UK) Poet Laureate although I should have. His poem, Causa Belli, made the news last year. (See the extended entry for the text of the poem.) I did know the opposing sides in the English Civil War but didn't know who played in the Euro 2000 final.

I think I did fairly well on that one but I only got two out of eight on the quiz about slang words.

They read good books, and quote, but never learn
a language other than the scream of rocket-burn.
Our straighter talk is drowned but ironclad:
elections, money, empire, oil and Dad.

Yankee or Dixie?

A quiz based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey says I'm: "76% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!"

(0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.)

I originally posted a link to the survey in August 2002. I remember answering questions for the survey. (Does that skew my quiz results?) There are results for terms and pronunciations in each state. For most of the questions, my answers for each were the same as the majority of Kentuckians who took the survey.

Democrats on the Issues

Online News Hour has a list of questions on 14 issues that they asked the Democratic primary candidates. You can either read the list of questions with each candidate's answers or take a quiz that shows only the question and answers without showing who each answer belongs to. The point of the quiz is to "Learn about the candidates through their platforms, not their personalities."

I tried to take the quiz but didn't get past the first question (the order the questions come in is random). There was no choice labeled "none of the above".

ColorQuiz

Your Existing Situation
Works well in cooperation with others. Needs a personal life of mutual understanding and freedom from discord.
How about just "needs to get a life"?
Your Stress Sources
Feels that life has far more to offer and that there are still important things to be achieved--that life must be experienced to the fullest. As a result, she pursues her objectives with a fierce intensity that will not let go of things. Becomes deeply involved and runs the risk of being unable to view things with sufficient objectivity, or calmly enough; is therefore in danger of becoming agitated and of exhausting her nervous energy. Cannot leave things alone and feels she can only be at peace when she has finally reached her goal.
My main goal is to take more naps.
Your Restrained Characteristics
Clings to her belief that her hopes and ideas are realistic, but needs encouragement and reassurance. Applies very exacting standards to her choice of a partner and wants guarantees against loss or disappointment.
Circumstances are forcing her to compromise, to restrain her demands and hopes, and to forgo for the time being some of the things she wants.
It's forgoing the Porsche, personal jet and the vacation homes in the mountains and on the beach that are really annoying. Even though I've occasionally wondered if I'll be able to pay all the monthly bills, these are still reasonable things to hope for, right?
Your Desired Objective
Wishes to find her stimulation in a voluptuous atmosphere of sensuous luxury.
Sensous luxury brings to mind thoughts of wearing nothing but a full-length sable coat. And lots of Godiva truffles. Whatever. I'm sure I could force myself to adapt to "a voluptuous atmosphere of sensuous luxury."
Your Actual Problem
Has a fear that she might be prevented from achieving the things she wants. This leads her to employ great personal charm in her dealings with others, hoping that this will make it easier for her to reach her objectives.
Yep, I hear that all the time. People point to me and say, "What a bitch charming woman."

What Mythical Beast Best Represents You?

Also known widely as the Fire Bird, the phoenix is a profound symbol of life and rebirth. It has a life cycle of 500 to 600 years and after that amount of time, it sets itself on fire and dies in the flames. Then, after three days, it rises again from the ashes. It is a completely benign creature who lives in dew. It is said that the phoenix has a beautiful melodious song which grows ever more mournful as its life comes to an end. It is also a symbol of the sun and immortality.

What Day Are You?

I am Saturday's Child

What day are you?

I was hoping to be Judgment Day or at least payday.

I'm the queen of laziness and procrastination. The only thing I work hard at is avoiding anything that resembles real work. Back when I was gainfully employed, I always did my job well without complaining (much) about it. For the past year, I've been able to contribute to the family income from my computer at home. This has been much better for me. Not only can I do my work at the time of my choosing, I have an excuse for all the chores I didn't do...Sorry I didn't do any laundry, I've been working.

My children are:
Trevor - Sunday...true except the "gay" part in either the current or original meaning. He's a teenager (14, almost 15) and is always cranky. At least he is when he's at home around his younger brother and sister. And he likes girls although I think they rank somewhere below video games and Magic cards.
Conor - Wednesday...true if "full of woe" means he complains about everything. He's good at it too, very persistant. I see a future for him as a consumer advocate. He'll have huge corporations saying, Fine, we'll give you what you want, just please shut up!
Emma - Friday...she is loving and giving. She's seven now, let's just hope this still holds true when she's 13.

What 60s Persona Would You Be?

The Traditionalist

You look past your white picket fence to see a
group of loud, angry, unhappy people and you
just don't get it. The way you see it,
everything is fine the way it is; there's no
need for radical change. Traditions and morals
never change, and as long as people anchor
themselves to true values, they are secure. You
realize the value of the past and of etiquette
and rules set in stone, knowing these are the
only things that never waver.
