The phone rings. I answer. There's a pause so I know it's an automated call and I should hang up but it's not noon yet still very early in the day and my reflexes are slow.
It sounds as though the caller-bot tells me that he's with the JessCo Boat Foundation and his friend George has been in a wreck. Then he tells me how his friend has to go door-to-door asking people if they have weapons. He wonders if he will ever be able to sit and watch TV with George again.
Someone paid for the caller-bot phone calls so there has to be a message here somewhere.
Eventually my one working brain cell figures out that he's with the Just Go Vote Foundation and George is in Iraq. The call was to tell me to register to vote. (I'm already registered, have been for more years than I care to think about. My husband is also registered and my kids are too young to vote.) Does he think I should register again? Where does he think I live, Chicago? It was also to inform me that this election (I assume the presidential election) is important. No kidding, I would never have figured that out on my own.
If the idea is to encourage me to vote in a way that will make sure he and George are safe to sit and watch TV (always my top priority), then it's clear I need to vote to re-elect George Bush. Both he and the caller-bot's friend George are working to keep us safe. The caller-bot, on the other hand, is pestering me at home.
I checked several search engines for "Just Go Vote Foundation" and found nothing that tells me who they are. I had expected to find something since the "Do Not Call" list doesn't seem to apply to them. Anyone know who is behind this group?
Update: The September 2004 phone call from the Just Go Vote Foundation.
Posted by marybeth at July 15, 2004 12:08 PM Other Stuff , PoliticsI also received an qutomated phone call but this one was that they had heard that social security would be changed. It might not be fixed. That sounds like a scare tactic and I am surprised that it is not sent just before the election. That is a typical Democrat trick, No time to check - just scare.
Since all the Democrats seem to request lock step with no thinking, it scares me. I would at least like someone to READ the bills that they pass or vote down. ALSO reading the small print and its implications would be helpful.
There are times that I would like to replace all the elected officials and start with fresh minds with new staff people. Maybe something would be thinking about us rather than their same old selves. I am thinking Congress here. That is where the rules for SS are written,
I think we need Bush to be consistant and finish what was started. He HAS a plan. He cannot control everything, but there is a plan of action. And that is action and not just talk. We need that at this time.
His action on the economy has put us on the right track and it is improving, I am not standing in line for a handout that you have to pay for, I don't want my taxes raised to stop my progress.
If you call me one more time, I will never vote again! I have had numerous phone calls - some within one minute of each other - all saying the same thing. I have always voted, but not for much longer. Get off my back!
Posted by Carol Balthrop at July 17, 2004 10:39 AMDear marybeth:
I've also been wondering who's behind the annoying "Just go Vote Foundation" phone calls . (I've received four from Robots named "Smith" (2) , "Jones," and "Franklin." ) A Google search on "just go vote foundation" places your comments at the top of the list .
The annoying calls seem designed precisely to elicit Carol Balthrop's response. "I've always voted, but not for much longer. Get off my back!"
Which party benefits the most when voter turnout is low? Which party has made great efforts to strike 48,000 (mostly black not hispanic) voters from the rolls in Florida? Which party consistently opposed motor voter and other laws to make it easier to register voters?
My best guess is that we'll find Republican donors behind this "foundation."
I JUST RECEIVED TWO PHONE CALL FROM THIS BOGUS OUTFIT WITHIN A FIVE MINUTES PERIOD. lAST WEEK THEY WOKE ME TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW FROM SOUND SLEEP. I HAVE TO WORK FOR A LIVING AND THIS CAMPAIGN WILL WORK, I NEVER WILL VOTE AGAIN. WE GOT RID OF TELEMARKETERS, WHY DO THESE DERELICTS HAVE FREE REIGN?
Posted by RAMONA at July 17, 2004 04:41 PMI too just received two calls from robot Molly Jones at the Just Go Vote Foundation! Irritating? I am trying to take care of my elderly father - he doesn't sleep much - but was asleep until your "Unknown Name, Unknown Number" call came it. I guess we'll all have to get together to add Political and Charity callers to the National Do No Call List!
Posted by Margi at July 17, 2004 06:01 PMI too received same scare tactic call. There must be a place to report this cowardly sick method. Anyone with ideas let me know. I'll check back again.
Posted by Carmine at July 17, 2004 06:18 PMI just got the annoying call also from Jones who says her daughters are about to graduate from highschool and college and she's worried because their potential jobs are being farmed out to the Orient and it's not right. If her daughters can't find jobs with their degrees in Humanities, perhaps they should move to Asia.
Is this organization the same as Just Go Vote 2004 at www.justgovote.org?
I saw the Just Go Vote 2004 site today. According to WhoIs, the domain was created on 01-Jun-2003 19:07:09 UTC and last updated on 09-Jul-2004 15:47:20 UTC. The "About" page is done but the pages with links and contact information are still under construction. Nothing there tells if this is the same group.
I've tried a few more search engines and different search terms. I've checked lists of PACs. I still haven't been able to find any mention of them in news articles or Web sites (other than the possible match mentioned above) but I'll keep looking.
Posted by marybeth at July 17, 2004 08:48 PMI find it unfair that we are not protected from this type of calls after registering with the "Do Not Call Registary". We have already had 5 calls from these people and it is just July! How many more of these will we be getting.
Posted by D. Forner at July 17, 2004 09:20 PMI've rec'd three calls from these idiots in the last two days. I would like to see the "do not call registry" apply to EVERYONE!
Posted by Mel Taylor at July 17, 2004 11:04 PMi just got 3 calls from this outfit (mollie jones ?) to get out and vote. i suspect this is some left wing nut bunch that likes to bother people as most such groups do. i wish they would just go away and quit bothering me!
Posted by jack sukovaty at July 18, 2004 09:06 AMI am looking...I was just interrupted with six f....... calls ina row. I'm trying to study for midterms and I f...... pissed.
Posted by GD at July 18, 2004 04:40 PMI have also been a lucky recipient of a call from this wonderfully useless organization. I say useless because I am also a registered voter who votes regularly, like may others who have posted here.
I just did a whois lookup on justgovote.org. The domain is registered to RSR Multimedia, and there are three email addresses included in the whois info: therev@rsrmultimedia.com there@rsrmultimedia.com jellether@rsrmultimedia.com
I sent them all an email expressing my annoyance with them. Not that I have any real expectations that they might stop - it just feels good to vent at them a little. :)
Posted by David Maloney at July 18, 2004 05:50 PMI received 4 phone calls from the Just Go Vote Foundation within a 10 minute span. All were from the same automated voice-bot with the same message. Take me off your list. I am capable of voting without reminders from you and I have better things to do than listen to a voice-bot.
Posted by Cheryl at July 18, 2004 05:53 PMThey annoyed me on Sunday afternoon with the jobs to India whine - unforgivable. But I got a laugh out of it when I did a Google search - the sidebar advertisement that came up was for charity serving India and south Asia!
Posted by Val at July 18, 2004 06:21 PMI Just recieved 7 automated calls from Molly Jones of the Just Go Vote Foundation, saying how tired she is of our kids graduating and all of the american's jobs going overseas. I called the 800 information line and they have no number listed for the foundation. I have 3 little children who were sleeping during this time, and thank God they didn't wake up. If anyone has any information, please let me know. I would like to give them a piece of my mind. I have always voted too, and this is NO way to get me to vote. thanks. kat
Posted by Kat Crandall at July 18, 2004 06:32 PMI just got (2) messages from the "Just Go Vote Foundation" on my voice messageing service. Same dame message. I'm so sick of this crap. If I choose to vote or not, that's my choice. This crap is no different then telemarking that I have blocked. Didn't want that, and don't want this either !!!!!!!
Posted by Paul Rees at July 18, 2004 06:48 PMI have had 6 calls this past hour from "Mollie Jones" of Just Go Vote Foundation. I am home sick and trying to sleep. I have an out of state relative that is terminaly ill so I can't turn off my phone. I do not have caller ID. I may get it so I can turn off the ringer and answering machine and still get my legitimate calls. Isn't there a law about peacefull enjoyment? This is certainlly interfering with the peacefull enjoyment of my sunday.
Posted by Stacy at July 18, 2004 07:06 PMI am getting multiple calls from Mollie Jones. Mollie Jones, I would like to meet you in person to physically share my frustrations with YOU! For every phone call you have made to my home i will equate that with ONE KICK IN THE ASS! I would also like for you to grow big enough balls to call me in person instead of using an automated voice message. ARE YOU AFRAID? I hope your children learn better lessons in college then they are getting from their mother at home.
Posted by Ronnie Foret at July 18, 2004 07:25 PMI just got three phone calls from this organization within the last one half hour. They don't even have the guts to leave a number so you can tell them what you think of there organization. I have been a voter for the last 40 years and I don"t need some liberal organization to tell me how I am suppose to vote. And besides that it I know now that I sure am not going to vote the way they want me to vote. As far as I am concerned they can stuff Millie jones and the whhole organization where ever. They Probobly don"t have the guts to read these anyway......
Posted by Gene at July 18, 2004 07:42 PMIt's Sunday afternoon and Molly has phoned me 4 times in a matter of minutes to complain about the plight of her poor daughters. Give me a break....if they want work here in the USA....they can find it! Whether I vote or not has no bearing on her daughters' jobs.
Stop with these annoying calls. I don't care if it's the Democrats or the Republicans behind them, either way they are annoying and only serve to piss people off!!!
If you look at the key words in the message at the JustGoVote.org site, you will realize that this is a Demo site. They talk negatively about the effort in the Iraq war, and speak of the declining economy. They also call speaking of sending jobs overseas, so-called "outsourcing". Wonder if they ran that by Teresa's big catsup company for clearance. Could be their economy is declining, since they have several sites "under construction". What I dislike is the veiled attempt to deceive voters by making us think they are non-partisan. It is a lie, and they are not.
